Angus is a very good place to see red squirrels. They live throughout the county from Muirhead to Brechin. The large forests of the Angus Glens are perfect havens for some of our most endangered small animals. However the threat of invasion by grey squirrels is always present and while the northern part of the area is still red-only there have been greys seen around Monifieth and Forfar.

Red Squirrels were once common throughout the UK but now there are very few left in England and Wales. 75% of our reds live north of the border. We should be proud to have their home here. It is our responsibility to do what we can to ensure that this beautiful icon of the countryside is saved from extinction.

The Angus Squirrel Group is made up of volunteers who are working to conserve the red squirrel population in the area. Please enter our website to find out more about what is being done and how you might play a part in our work.
